Participation in the 2024 TOSSM Travelling Fellowship program

In 2024, from March 17 to March 31, as a TOSSM Traveling Fellow. I would like to thank all KSES members for their hospitality, regardless of whether they were in a crisis situation. In the past 2 weeks, I have learned a lot about academics and Korean culture. These inspired me not just for work but also for my daily life. This truly fascinating program gave us the opportunity to visit nine clinics and hospitals.

On Monday, the 17th, we visited the Neon Orthopedics Clinic with Professor Jin-Young Park for rotator cuff repair and outpatient clinics. Professor Joo Han Oh was at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital on Tuesday. Along with teaching us how to perform surgery, he also demonstrated to us how to gather the best feasible research (and also the best beef in Korea). Then we moved to the Samsung Medical Center with Professor Jae-Chul Yoo, who shows us how to perform several shoulder procedures (patch augmentation, etc.). We finished the first week with Professor Kyu-Choel Noh in Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital and Professor Yon-Sik Yoo from Camp 9 Orthopedic Clinic with navigated arthroplasty cases and many shoulder arthroscopes.

We started the second week with Professor Woong Kyo Jeong at Korea University Anam Hospital, who has demonstrated to us how to look after his team during crisis while remaining them happy and very well-functioning. On Tuesday, we moved to Ewha Woman’s University Hospital with Professor Sang-Jin Shin. He showed and taught us how to learn from our mistakes and improve our surgical skills. On Wednesday, we visited Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital with Professor Yang-Soo Kim, who showed us a famous procedure called Biceps re-routing, with his newest technique. On the final day of our program with legendary surgeon Professor Yong-Girl Rhee, who shared with us not only great surgeries and great classical music but also amazing life experiences.

As a surgeon and a lecturer at Burapha University Hospital. All of the experience I have acquired from this program will be put to enhance my surgery, my research, and how I teach other younger doctors and surgeons.

As a TOSSM committee, I would like to thank KSES again and wish our good relationship between TOSSM and KSES will keep going for a very long time. And I would like to be a part of it.

Last but not least, I want to give special thanks you to Dr. Heedong Lee and Dr. Myung-Seo Kim, who took great care of us and helped to make this happen. Hoping your crisis will end soon.
