I feel truly grateful to have been part of the 2026 KSES–TOSSM Traveling Fellowship. Over the course of nine days, I had the opportunity to visit eight leading medical institutions across South Korea. This experience went far beyond observation—it was an invaluable opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and witness firsthand the advanced techniques that have made KSES a global leader in shoulder and elbow surgery.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the fellowship was the chance to observe more than 40 complex surgical cases alongside highly respected Korean surgeons. The experience has significantly influenced how I think about surgical planning and patient care. I was particularly impressed by advanced approaches in managing massive rotator cuff tears, including muscle advancement techniques, biceps rerouting, and the use of biologic augmentations such as Regeneten, BioBrace, and dermal allografts. Simple yet effective techniques—like the “syringe technique” for suture management—were also practical takeaways that I look forward to applying in my own practice. In reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA), I gained valuable insights into tailoring surgical techniques to better suit Asian and female patients. Concepts such as optimizing biomechanics and focusing on balanced repair (“Shape over Size”) were especially impactful.
Beyond the operating room, this fellowship was also about connection and cultural exchange. I was deeply touched by the warm hospitality of our Korean colleagues. From sharing meals to experiencing local culture, every moment added to the richness of this journey. I want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hee Dong Lee for the exceptional care and coordination throughout the program. I am also grateful to my fellowship partner, Dr. June Wasaphol, for sharing this memorable experience together.
I return to Thailand inspired and motivated to apply what I have learned to my practice at Pranangklao Hospital, and to share these experiences with my colleagues and residents.
Thank you, KSES and TOSSM, for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I look forward to a future of continued collaboration and enduring friendship between our societies.
